Special Education Scenario

Robin GallowayRobin Galloway serves as a Research Coordinator for the Research Institute for Studies in Education (RISE), Iowa State University. In this role she is currently working with educators to conduct PK-12 education research through out the state of Iowa.

Her responsibilities include facilitating focus groups and interviews, conducting observations, developing evaluation instruments, maintaining databases for research and preparing research reports. Robin is presently the research coordinator for the Evaluation of the Iowa Behavior Alliance grant. In addition, Robin serves as a certified School Wide Information Systems (SWIS), Educational and Community Supports, University of Oregon trainer/consultant for schools initiating schoolwide positive discipline supports and as a teacher evaluation trainer for Iowa school administrators.

Robin has served as an education services consultant with AEA 2 school districts where she collaboratively lead various school improvement initiatives. Examples of these initiatives include School Family and Community Partnerships for 22 school districts, Climate and Culture Cadre for 24 school districts, and Counselor Academy for AEA 2 school counselors. Robin provides consulting and training to districts in the areas of conflict resolution, Restitution, Applied Control Theory, brain research, developmental assets, Facilitation of groups I and II (dealing with conflict), developing school, family, community partnerships, building effective learning communities and schoolwide discipline initiatives.

Robin holds a MS degree in K-12 school counseling and Specialist degree in educational leadership from Drake University. In addition, she holds a PhD in educational leadership from Iowa State University.



Behavior and Discipline Content Expert

Sheila WillmsSheila Willms, Assistant Professor of Education, Waldorf College, holds a masters degree in educational leadership from Drake University. She was a classroom teacher for 15 years at the preschool, elementary, middle school and high school levels; a curriculum coordinator for 3 years and an educational consultant for 3 years. Presently, Sheila is an assistant professor at Waldorf College. She has assisted in developing Waldorf's new preservice teacher training programs. Sheila teaches courses for Waldorf students in the areas of: behavior and discipline, assessment, methods (art, music, movement, and drama) and language development. She also supervises student teachers in the field.

While consulting for Northern Trails Area Education Agency (AEA 2), Sheila supported districts in the development of caring cultures and climates for learning. She worked with initiatives such as: Success4, conflict resolution, Restitution, Applied Control Theory, assessment, Math Exemplars and early literacy. Sheila also developed and facilitated the following staff development courses at Northern Trails: Facilitation I, Advanced Facilitation (Dealing with Conflict), Applied Control Theory/Restitution Followup Course Sessions.

She continues to provide consulting services for districts, particularly in the areas of: Applied Control Theory/Restitution, building effective learning communities, mentoring programs for new teachers, schoolwide discipline initiatives, and group facilitation skills.
