Contact the unsuccessful candidates who interviewed by phone to let them know of the results of your search. Be honest and brief. If the candidate asks for feedback, you may or you may not wish to offer it. One thought is to highlight the abilities of the successful candidate that made him/her your choice rather than to highlight the inabilities of the unsuccessful candidate.

Follow up with a form letter/postcard sent via the postal service to all candidates who made application but were not interviewed. (See "Unsuccessful Candidate Letter" to the left.) This is another very important public relations step.
