Interview Questions
The Step-by-Step Hiring Process Resource
See how to write interview questions using the document "Writing Interview Questions."

Use the pre-determined criteria to develop and ask of all candidates the same interview questions.

Have all questions available in writing to the interviewers. Provide space after each question for the interviewer to give written feedback.

Multiple Data Sets
In considering candidates, include as many data sets as possible. This includes such things as the responses in the interview, the reactions of references, the performance of the candidate in a demonstration of teaching, and the portfolio of professional work under the Iowa Teaching Standards.

Informing the Candidate
At the conclusion of the interview, inform the candidate when/how you will be contacting him/her of your decision. Try to get back to interviewees within five days—if only to tell them you are still in the decision-making process. Remember that some of the best public relations of your district occur when we interact with applicants!

Interviewer Feedback

Collect feedback after each interviewer as to the strengths and challenges of each candidate as they relate to the pre-determined criteria. Remember that it is the administrator who makes the final decision as to which candidate will be recommended for hire.
