Distribution and return of the surveys can be problematic, because you need the greatest amount of participation possible to obtain meaningful information. Here are a few suggestions to help you keep it simple so lots of parents will participate. Start with an idea that seems easy and fits you and your coworkers. Send the survey home with students in their "Friday Folders" (or however the teachers send completed work and notes to parents) with a very short return date. (For some reason short turn around times produce greater participation.) As the surveys are returned to school, they are placed in a collection box covered to match the color of the survey. Another idea is to distribute the surveys at an open house, parent teacher conferences, or other elementary events. Provide a centrally located table, pencils, and privacy. Surveys are completed on the spot and returned into the colored collection box. A third idea is to include it in your newsletter to parents. Parents complete the survey, detach it, and return it to school with their children, drop it off, or mail it to you if they wish. You'll think of other ways to distribute surveys and have them returned. Do what works for you. (Stickers or bubble gum are great bribes for students to return surveys when you're desperate!) |
