Introduction to Keeping Parents Informed

At the elementary school level, keeping parents informed often involves safety issues. More than anything else parents depend on us to keep their children safe while in our care. This is a lofty and sometimes scary responsibility. Parents depend on both teachers and the principal to create an environment that keeps their children safe and helps them learn (Bryk & Schneider, 2003).

Conveying to parents school start and dismissal times, bus route schedules, early dismissals, changes in schedules due to professional development days, etc. impact the safety of our young students who are depending on their parents and us. School rules and policies affect children and their families on a daily basis. Timely and accurate information to parents is essential.
