School Environment: Introduction

Parents a Secondary Principal's Perspective Web Link
The school is an open system. The culture within the school is directly impacted by events and decisions outside of the school. Conversely, events and decisions made inside the walls of the school impact the greater community. Establishing and maintaining a positive, safe, academic environment is a foundation to a positive working relationship with parents. Being proactive with the school environment can help minimize the number of “fires” that the principal has to put out on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

It is a popular belief in many administrative circles that parents are very supportive of school rules until their child is accused of an infraction. This is much more likely to be true if parents are not involved in the development and review of these rules.
