  • You must be clear about your aim (goal/purpose) in order to determine meaningful measures.

  • You must create a climate where people can freely use data to enhance understanding in order to make informed decisions. (Deming: Point #8: Drive Out Fear)

  • You need more than one measure to evidence improvement.

  • Know the difference between outcome and process measures, effort and impact measures.
