This guide to “Support Staff Success” is not designed to be a road map but rather a reflection. Throughout this guide you will be exposed to research-based strategies, theory, practical vignettes, and a wealth of resources on which to call as you grow in your role as educational leader.

As we begin this journey I encourage you to frame your thoughts around a global and holistic picture of your school district. Push yourself to stretch beyond the brick walls, the playground, the athletic fields, and even the district boundaries. Allow yourself to see your school district as a living, breathing entity full of life and lives. If you open yourself to that focus you will allow yourself to get beyond titles and roles. You will be able to experience the learning others have had in developing a warm, caring learning environment for all learners regardless of age, race, color, creed, gender, or handicapping condition.

Simply signing a contract that contains the word leader, manager, supervisor, administrator, or president does not make one a leader. It may make one a boss, but not necessarily a leader. Leadership is discussed in other study guides put forth by School Administrators of Iowa and I encourage you to spend some time in that reflection.

Now sit back, get your mouse ready and let’s start down the journey to Support Staff Success.
