It is the role of the board to define 'what we want to be' and the role of the superintendent and administrative team to define how, when, and with whom. At the table, board members will address issues, defend positions, debate vigorously, vote, and support the decision of the majority. The superintendent then does what the whole board determines.
Accept responsibility for being the very best at your job that you can be…and then others can also be the best they can be.
People watch everything you do. You are always leading. You can never not lead.
High expectations are placed on you by staff, parents, community. It is your responsibility to model high expectations for others.
Hire great people. De-hire people who do not contribute to the mission. Treat all with respect.
Everything you do counts. Make it count.
People want to know the direction they're headed.
No one has a crystal ball…and are not very good at guessing your vision.
Share your vision. (Remember your personal belief system?) What do you want to accomplish?
Tell people how they're doing and where they fit into the big picture.
Show everyone you care.
If you don't show people you care, they conclude that you don't. Then, they reciprocate and they stop caring, too.
Trust happens when there is face-to-face, two-way communication and caring.
